Week 8 - Devlog

After a two week break, we have started working on our project again. We have two weeks left to implement any features, the plan is to finish the features we had in mind and polish them after we implemented them.

  • Fortifications

One of the features left to add was fortifications, which we handled this week. They are available in the shop and can be picked up by the players.
When you want to place a fortification, you use the same button as you use for power-ups but when the button is pressed it does not get placed immediately.
You first see a transparent version of the mesh so you can visualize where it will be placed.
When the button is pressed again, the fortification is build.

  • Dash

Another feature that was on our to-do list was the dash mechanic. This mechanic allows players to have more possibilities to dodge an incoming ball which creates more variety in our game.
To prevent the player from spamming this mechanic and move over the whole map within seconds, a cooldown timer is added.

  • Lightning Effects

The electric ball feature is still in development but we already created some fancy effects for it. We have an effect that turns the ball into a lightning ball.
The ball will also be able to stun players in a certain radius, so we also made a lightning bolt effect that would reach the enemy player when he/she gets stunned.

  • Fireball impact

The fire ball is already in our game but we did not have any visuals yet that would play when a player got hit by it, which did not make it clear if you were hit by a special ball or not.
That is why we created an impact effect for the fire ball that will be implemented in the following weeks.

  • Widgets

Because we did not have any widgets yet, the pick-ups were plain cubes and when picked up, there would be no indication if you picked it up or not, which is obviously not optimal.
To solve this we created widgets that would represent the power-ups, so it is clearer what you just picked up.

  • Sound

We also added new sounds and improved already existing sounds. We changed the ambient and footsteps sounds to have the player feel like they are in an outside environment.
And we added a player-hit, ball-bounce and throw/shoot sound.
